EMV 3-D Secure implementation for a card issuer

Challenge

To provide additional security for customers who pay online, banks introduced 3-D Secure (3DS), a technology that adds an extra layer of authentication for cardholders. Financial institutions entering the e-Commerce domain need specialized knowledge in this subject. Our client, a card issuer, requested our support with their 3DS implementation.

Solution

What we did to support our client:

  • 3DS and CNP training: we provided an extensive training with an overview of 3DS and card not present(CNP) payments, its use cases, authentications options, fraud rules and best practices.
  • 3DS business requirements: we helped our clients ensure that fraud prevention and payment network requirements were fully covered. This included an analysis of relevant regulations, the identification of suitable authentication and authorization options, and a vendor evaluation.
  • 3DS implementation: working closely with the customer’s fraud prevention team, we defined the authentication and authorization rules, aiming to prevent potential card fraud in balance with smooth user experience. In the integration phase, we supported and tested proper configuration of vendor solutions.  
  • Maintenance and support: we kept providing comprehensive support, such as issues resolution, impact of changes analysis, additional training and knowledge development.

Our customer successfully implemented and launched the new card product enabling e-Commerce acceptance through the card payment network. We laid down authorization and authentication rules that met the customer’s specific requirements and ensured higher security and compliance with industry standards.
